EC #4 (Good Night & Good Luck)

Write a thoughtful comment to the prompt below (worth 1 point). If you thoughtfully reply to a fellow classmate's comment, you'll receive an additional 1/2 point.

At the end of the film, Ed Murrow and Fred Friendly are "removed" and "demoted" to a less favorable slot by the CBS executive. What do you think about how they were treated? What does this say about the TV industry and the executives' understanding of the American public viewers?

  1. I think it shows that the people in charge only want to hear what they want to hear. If someone says something they dont want to hear, they will do something about it. In this case, the people in charge demoted Murrow and Friendly.

  2. To me this shows how people are more scared to get introuble then to say how they really feel. Ed and Fred were doing what everyone at CBS wanted to but was to scared to do. However since the TV industry and executives knew it was wrong they had to stop it. They had to show what should be heard not what was wanted to be heard. This shows how people care more about themseleves then others

    1. I agree with Erica. I think since the industry knew what had to be heard and didn't, it showed how much they didn't care what people wanted to hear.

  3. This shows me how people in charge dont stick up for their valuable employees. Being a person of high position should mean respect from your bosses and also a bond. When he was demoted it proved to me once again that people in charge take advantage of their power. He was afraid of losing his job or being threatened so he demoted ed. In addition it shows friends shouldn't be in business together which their relationship was close in that way.

  4. The demoton of Ed Murrow and Fred Friendly just go to show how people can under value their quality employees. This also showed how the TV industry is more focused on pleasing the viewers because people like Murrow and Friendly are courageous enough to state the truth of the issue rather than worry about what people want to hear which caused the demotion of the two key broadcasters.
