The film used real footages from the McCarthy hearings. Why do you think the director chose to incorporate real footages? What kind of effect did this have on you as a viewer?
The real footage was definitely more scary, compared to an actor trying to be McCarthy. This is because it shows how real the feeling towards communism during this time was like.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Daniel. I feel if an actor were to have tried to portay the emotions of how everyone was feeling it would not have been the same. The realness of the movie comes from the realistic actions and emotions the poeple felt at the moment.
DeleteThe real footage made the movie more genuine. It showed how he and people truly felt during the scary McCarthy Era. THe incorpation of the real footage gave me a better understanding of this terrible time.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't necessarily say it was scarier than someone trying to be MaCarthy, but I think it made more sense for the director to have this in the film because it made easier to understand and more interesting to watch.
ReplyDeleteReal footage greatly adds to the film. It not only shows prime examples of the time period and the real live footage. It adds a tone and a sense of reality to the movie. It brings you closer to the characters and portrays the point of the movie much better.
ReplyDeleteThe real footage helped show the viewer what the times were like. It gave the effect, that McCarthy was scary and threatening person and helped to portray what was going on with the controversy when Murrow had aired the attack on McCarthy. If the scene were reenacted, it wouldnt have the same effect that Joe McCarthy had on people. You get the sense of the threat that he carried and made the viewer more engaged.
ReplyDeleteI think the director decided to put real footage into film to give viewers who didn't live in that time period what it was like for the common people and how anyone was at a potential risk of being called communist. The footage added the true reality of harsh times for average citizens.
